Habitat Depot

Use at your own risk!

Cook up your own Private Habitat Depot.

Requirements

  • Chef 12.11 or higher

Platform Support

  • Tested only on Ubuntu 16.04

Setup

Place a dependency on the depot cookbook in your cookbook's metadata.rb.

depends 'depot', '~> 0.2.0'

Then, in a recipe:

include_recipe 'depot'

A service will be created as hab-depot.

Attributes

Local Test

You can spin up a local Depot by using the included kitchen setup.

$ kitchen converge

A vagrant box is spun up on 192.168.96.31 allowing you to view
http://192.168.96.31 in your browser.

Usage

Once you have a depot provisioned. Here are some of the basics you should know
to make it useful. In this setup, I will use 192.168.96.31 as the fqdn.

  1. Sign-in to your private depot at http://192.168.96.31
  2. From UI, Add your origin(s).

  3. Upload your origin keys.

    $ hab origin key upload --url http://192.168.96.31/v1/depot nameoforigin
    $ hab origin key upload --url http://192.168.96.31/v1/depot --pubfile /path/to/somekey.pubfile

  4. Upload your packages.

    $ hab pkg upload --url http://192.168.96.31/v1/depot somepackage.hart

Tips

  • You can set HAB_DEPOT_URL to http://<fqdn>/v1/depot and you won't have to keep passing --url http://<fqdn>/v1/depot in each command.
